Once upon a time, I had a successful, six-figure job in New York City…after 20+ years in corporate and agency marketing roles, I found myself utterly passionless about my life. I was grateful to have my life, don’t get me wrong— after a bout with cancer, a divorce and subsequent re-start, and assorted other what-doesn’t-kill-you-makes-you-stronger experiences, I don’t take anything for granted—but it was no longer a life I wanted for myself. So, I took stock of my life and looked inward to answer the question: what is in my heart? Take money, security and fear off the table, and really listen to my inner voice….
It told me to head west.
Well, first it told me to focus on the up-and-coming world of weed. An industry where I might actually be able to make an impact (unlike financial services and healthcare, where I’d spent the majority of my career). A plant which has helped me immensely and can bring value to countless people and even the world. A topic that I feel passionately about.
It was the perfect merger of my professional and personal life—I had the general “what” answered, but “how?” And what exactly should I do? As I pondered my next steps and started to immerse myself in the industry, that is when my inner voice told me to head west. If I was going to commit my life to this plant, I was going to go all in. Experience the birth of an industry from the inside; as a consumer and a professional. I would find my path forward by putting myself in the mix and seeing what takes shape.
So, I quit my job, gave up my apartment, got rid of pretty much everything I owned and moved to Colorado with 3 suitcases and 2 cats. I’m currently living in Boulder and loving my life and this adventure. I’m still figuring out what I want to fully focus on; there are many potential paths in front of me, and I’m giving myself the breathing room to find the one that resonates with my heart, mind and spirit (and wallet!)
Who knows what lies ahead? I wouldn’t have predicted this life for myself, but I couldn’t be happier and can’t wait to see what’s next for myself, for this industry and for the many people who will find their lives changed because of cannabis.
Join me on what I hope will be an insightful and inspirational adventure…
